Term 3 Week 2

Zico has had more adventures this week. Horse riding was great, Zico is back on Kelly and he used the reins for the longest time ever! He also showed great confidence in the way that he talked to all the adults and came up with new and inventive words to go with the alphabet letters around the arena.
For writing Zico has continued mostly with a dinosaur theme but is also learning about how a sentence is made up of an idea and how you can join ideas with "and".
For reading Zico has enjoyed reading poems and books and learning some new sight words too this week. We were particularly impressed with how well he read "Whose in the Shed" with great expression!
For Maths Zico has been learning about fractions as well as revising some subtraction. He has also been self exploring on the ipad and loves doing games that involve basic 2D shapes and simple Algebra patterns.
Zico had some time at Cable bay exploring rock pools. We found crabs and glass shrimps.
We also went out hiding rocks that we had painted, I was amazed at the great hiding spots that he found.
Finally Zico has been all about Pokemon! We have been playing Pokemon Go on my phone and watching it on Netflix. Zico got a pokemon toy from his cousins and spent ages discussing the different characters with them at the library this week too. He has also been doing some observational drawing and drawing from memory of his favourite pokemon characters. Both on the whiteboard (in the car...his choice) and on the ipad.  Ka Pai Zico, it is so great to see you wanting to draw so much that you took the whiteboard with you!

Term 3 week 1 and the holidays

We had a great holiday, some bad weather which meant puddles to play in and some brilliant sunshine which meant paddleboarding and seeing seals and making a fire on the beach to toast marshmallows.
It was Dave's birthday this week so Zico enjoyed edaname at a Japanese restaurant. He also tried lotus chips too.

Zico tried Karate and did great, he thought he might go back when he is a bit older but isn't ready just yet.
Zico's dinosaur writing theme continues. This term his goal is to write about 3 ideas which normally  takes 2 sentences, this is a real step up for Zico but he has risen to the challenge.
Zico has been learning about number sequence and how teen numbers are made.
For Dave's birthday Zico decorated a gift bag with some creative dinosaurs. Daddy loved it!
Zico got creative with sprinkles, marshmallows and candles and decorated Daddy's cake.

We did some family rock decorating and our next job is to go and hide them for other children to find.

Zico thought he looked pretty cool in my boots.
Zico took this photo with my phone when we fed hungry seagulls. I think it is pretty amazing!

Term 2 week 10

This week we were both sick with the flu/cold. So unfortunately swimming lessons were cancelled. Zico still managed to get out riding and we made the most of the winter sunshine by visiting the hockey street playground afterwards. Zico has grown in confidence and delighted in playing a chasing game over the stepping stones with me.
We finished Matilda this week and watched the movie too, now we have started the BFG.

It was great to see Zico pick up some scissors this week and start exploring cutting by himself.
Zico had an eye appointment at the hospital and was brave enough to to sit in the chair all by himself for the first time.

Being cooped up at home has meant playing hide and seek and Zico found a good hiding place in the laundry basket. We have also played a family game of combined drawing of made up creatures which Zico adores!
Making use of journeys to places but playing talking books is still popular and this week we listened to the bubbling crocodile.

We made some playdough to play with too since we couldn't leave the house and give others our germs. Zico created a cool looking character.
Finally for the start of the holidays we got out to the Glenn and the beach where we played with sticks and fed the hungry seagulls.

Tverm 2 week 9

This was the last week for Gymnastics so Zico got a participation certificate, of which he was very proud. Last week we went to a Matariki celebration where Zico had to use his torch to find 4 stars and when he had found them he got this little bag of glow in the dark stars.
We visited Monty this week to see Zico's old teachers and any children that were still there. Kaylene was thrilled to see him but Michelle was sick so we will have to go back again another time. Zico got to join in with the Music programme and try some new work too, which was a science work of using vinegar and baking soda to make a volcano. After our visit we had fun with the old fashioned phone boxes and then went to the cafe for a fluffy and Zico and I completed a children's cross word. Zico was really good at guessing the animals from the clues.
The Roald Dahl obsession continues and this week we did more stamps, having read yet more books Zico knew who even more of the characters were. We finished reading the Giraffe the Pelly and me and started reading Matilda. Zico's own writing is still about Dinosaurs and each day he adds more details to his dinosaur writing.
